Ed Sheeran leads England’s famous cheerleaders ahead of EURO 2024 final

Ed Sheeran and Kate Beckinsale are among the stars who sent congratulations to the England national football team ahead of the EURO 2024 final on Sunday evening.

England will play Spain in the final in Berlin. The men’s team is hoping to win its first major title since the 1966 World Cup. Gareth Southgate’s team had to endure many scares and criticism during the tournament, but defeated the Netherlands in the semi-finals and now faces the big game on Sunday.

In a video made for the BBC, Ed, who was spotted in the stands at the semi-final and featured for the team during the tournament, said: “Everything is coming together at the right point,” before adding: “It’s like coming home.”

Wearing an England shirt, Kate recited her own football-themed version of the Lord’s Prayer: “Grant this day our happy victory, and forgive us for criticising your tactics.”

Other stars who took part included Craig David, who sang “We got the Euros in our hands” for the team from his recording studio, Stephen Fry and Patrick Stewart, who said he was “optimistic” ahead of the game.

English music stars Little Simz, Mabel, Sam Smith and Jess Glynne also wished the team good luck in the video.

Even an Australian star is supporting England – despite the sporting rivalry between the two countries. Hugh Jackman took a break from promoting Deadpool & Wolverine and predicted a 3-1 victory for England.

The final starts at 8pm British Summer Time.
