Transformers One by Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson receives encouraging first reactions

The prequel to the Transformers series will switch to animation and the first reactions are exciting.

Transformers One Josh Cooley directs from a screenplay by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. Cooley first gained recognition as co-writer of the 2015 screenplay from the inside to the outsidewhich earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The voice cast includes Hemsworth as Orion/Optimus Prime, Henry as D-16/Megatron, Key as B-127/Bumblebee, Johansson as Elita, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion and Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, with Steve Buscemi playing the film’s antagonist. The official synopsis reads: “It is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, who were once friends and bonded like brothers and changed the fate of Cybertron forever.”

Why did Megatron’s origin story change?

According to Cooley, the creative team decided to change the original origin stories of the characters, including Megatron, because the upcoming film has a limited runtime of 90 minutes. If things had been different, it definitely would have featured Megatron’s gladiator background. “If we had all the time in the world, it would have been fun to show Megatron as a gladiator and have the two characters come from very different backgrounds,” Cooley said. “We actually had a gladiator scene that alluded to that origin, but it got cut.”
