JACKSON, MI – A busy commercial street in Jackson will be closed for two days for bridge repairs.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will close the M-50/US-127 Business Route – which spans Cooper Street between South Street and Morrell Street – for two days beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, July 15.
A map of the affected road is available on the MDOT website. Bridge repairs are expected to be completed and the road will reopen by Tuesday, July 16.
Regular bridge maintenance helps improve and extend the life of these structures, MDOT officials said, adding that lane closures during such work are necessary to provide the safest possible work area for workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to follow signposted diversions or seek alternative routes during the closure.
Citing economic models, those responsible assume that this $3.3 million project will create 40 jobs directly and indirectly.
