“The Penguin”, “Dune: Prophecy”: Max original series will also be broadcast on HBO – canceled + extended TV shows, ratings

The TV show “The Penguin” on HBO Max: Cancelled or renewed?

HBO snaps up two more Max originals. The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, both of which air later this year, will now stream on HBO and Max when they are released. This comes just a month after it was announced that Lanterns, Harry Potter and Welcome to Derry will be HBO Originals when they premiere in 2025.

The Penguin stars Colin Farrell in his role from The Batman and is set to be released in September. The series also stars Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Theo Rossi, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.

As for Dune: Prophecytakes place 10,000 years before dune Films and novels, and stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning and Yerin Ha. The premiere date for this series has not yet been announced.

Deadline commented on the transfer of these two series to HBO as follows:

“It’s part of a strategy to rebrand its most popular titles as HBO Originals, giving them a linear broadcast on the premium cable network as well as a streaming version. When the move was originally announced in June, the company said it was unsure whether ‘The Penguin,’ which is set to premiere in September, and ‘Dune: Prophecy’ would fall under the new brand, but that has now been clarified.”
