GARRYOWEN’s Conor Murray scored a brilliant first-half try for Ireland in a memorable 25-24 comeback victory over South Africa at Hollywoodbets Kings Park in Durban yesterday (Saturday).

The score helped the visitors to a 16-6 lead at halftime, with Jack Crowley scoring 11 points (he kicked 14 in total).

World champions South Africa then stormed back and seemed to be on course for victory, but Ireland snatched victory with a last-minute dropkick by Ciarán Frawley.

Afterwards, Murray told SuperSport: “It’s just incredible to come here into the backyard of the world champion. We knew how tough it was going to be. That was last week (in the first test) and again today.”

“South Africa don’t lose easily, they find a way (to stay in the game) and it’s so frustrating to play against them sometimes. Look, we believed in ourselves and it was always clear that it was going to be a big challenge.”

He added: “I think we can be really proud of last weekend’s performance, it was a tough loss. But to turn up this week and we knew we would get our chance at the end of the week, the team still gave it their all and committed to this week.”

“We had a big meeting on Wednesday, it was a really honest meeting about ourselves. It wasn’t perfect at all tonight, but we got through it.”

Young Munster’s Calvin Nash also played a leading role in the famous victory.

The result was a 1-1 draw in the series.
